जानिए छठपर्व के सांस्कृतिक महत्त्व को

राजधानी में पूर्वांचल के महापर्व छठ पूजा की तैयारियां जोर शोर से चल रही हैं। इस वर्ष यह पर्व 4 नवम्बर से 7 नवम्बर तक मनाया जायेगा। छठपर्व साल में दो बार मनाया जाता है। पहली बार चैत्र में और दूसरी बार कार्तिक में। चैत्र शुक्लपक्ष षष्ठी पर मनाए जाने वाले छठ पर्व को ‘चैती छठ’ व कार्तिक शुक्लपक्ष षष्ठी पर मनाए जाने वाले पर्व को ‘कार्तिकी छठ’ कहा जाता है।
कार्तिक मास की शुक्ल पक्ष की चतुर्थी से लेकर सप्तमी तिथि तक चार दिनों तक मनाया जाने वाला छठ पर्व बिहार का प्रमुख लोकपर्व है। इस महापर्व में देवी षष्ठी माता एवं भगवान सूर्य को प्रसन्न करने के लिए स्त्री और पुरूष दोनों ही व्रत रखते हैं। व्रत चार दिनों का होता है पहले दिन यानी चतुर्थी को आत्म शुद्धि हेतु व्रत करने वाले केवल अरवा खाते हैं यानी शुद्ध आहार लेते हैं। पंचमी के दिन ‘नहाय खाय’ होता है यानी स्नान करके पूजा पाठ करके संध्या काल में गुड़ और नये चावल से खीर बनाकर फल और मिष्टान से छठी माता की पूजा की जाती है फिर व्रत करने वाले कुमारी कन्याओं को एवं ब्राह्मणों को भोजन करवा कर इसी खीर को प्रसाद के तौर पर खाते हैं। षष्टी के दिन घर में पवित्रता एवं शुद्धता के साथ उत्तम पकवान बनाये जाते हैं। संध्या के समय पकवानों को बड़े बडे बांस के डालों में भरकर जलाशय के निकट स्थित नदी, तालाब, सरोवर पर ले जाया जाता है।
षष्ठी तिथि को दोपहर से ही नदियों और तालाबों के किनारे व्रतीजनों की भीड़ जुटने लगती है। महिलाएं सूर्य देव और छठ माई के गीत गाती हुई अपने घरों से निकलती हैं। बांस निर्मित सूप और डलिया में सूर्यदेव को चढ़ाने का जो प्रसाद होता है उसमें सभी प्रकार के ऋतुफल, कन्द मूल, मिष्ठान्न और अनेक प्रकार के पकवान होते हैं। प्रसाद सामग्री में गुड़ और आटे से बने हुए ‘ठेकुआ’ पर लकड़ी के सांचे से सूर्यदेव के रथ का चक्र भी अंकित होता है। जलाशयों में ईख का घर बनाकर उन पर दीया जलाया जाता है। जैसे ही भगवान सूर्य अस्त होने लगते हैं, व्रतीजन जल में खड॓ होकर दोनों हाथों से सूर्य भगवान को अर्घ्य अर्पित करते हैं। छठ पर्व के समय गाए जाने वाले एक लोकगीत के अनुसार छठ मइया से विनती की जाती है कि सूर्य भगवान जल्दी दर्शन दें तथा अन्न-धन, घर-परिवार सब प्रकार की खुशहाली प्रदान करें-
‘‘कौने अवगुणवां सूरुज नाहीं
उगले हे छठि मइया।
जिंदगिया बना दे अन्न धन
सेवकन के घर भरवा दे।।’’
व्रत करने वाले जल में स्नान कर इन डालों को उठाकर डूबते सूर्य एवं षष्टी माता को अर्घ्य देते हैं। सूर्यास्त के पश्चात लोग अपने अपने घर वापस आ जाते हैं। रात भर जागरण किया जाता है।सप्तमी के दिन सुबह ब्रह्म मुहूर्त में पुन: संध्या काल की तरह डालों में पकवान, नारियल, केला, मिठाई भर कर नदी तट पर लोग जमा होते हैं। व्रत करने वाले सुबह के समय उगते सूर्य को अर्घ्य देते हैं।अंकुरित चना हाथ में लेकर षष्ठी व्रत की कथा कही और सुनी जाती है। कथा के बाद प्रसाद वितरण किया जाता है और फिर सभी अपने अपने घर लौट आते हैं। व्रतीजन इस दिन व्रत का परायण करते हैं।
एक आम कहावत प्रचलित है कि “लोग सदा उगते हुए सूर्य को प्रणाम करते है.” किन्तु लोक-आस्था का महापर्व ‘छठ’ एक ऐसा पर्व है जहां डूबते हुए सूर्य की भी पूजा की जाती है। आदि देव भगवान भास्कर की आराधना का पर्व ‘छठ’ प्रकृति की आराधना का महापर्व है। छठ पूजा बिहार और पूर्वी उत्तर प्रदेश की कृषक सभ्यता का महापर्व है। सूर्य और छठ माता की आराधना को समर्पित यह पर्व केवल पूर्वोत्तर में ही नहीं, बल्कि अब यह पूरे देश में मनाया जाने लगा है। भारतीय लोकपर्वों का लोकमानस सदा से ही प्रकृति पूजक रहा है। छठपर्व भी उसी परंपरा की एक पर्यावरण वैज्ञानिक सांस्कृतिक सौगात है।
बहुत चिंता की बात है कि हम आठ हजार साल से भी पुरानी वैदिक आर्यों की सूर्य संस्कृति की समाराधना से उपजी अपनी परम्पराओं के राष्ट्रीय महत्त्व को भुलाते जा रहे हैं। पर वास्तविकता यह है किउत्तराखंड का उत्तरायण पर्व हो या केरल का ओणम पर्व, कर्नाटक की रथसप्तमी हो या फिर बिहार का छठ पर्व- इस तथ्य को सूचित करते हैं कि भारत मूलत: सूर्य संस्कृति के उपासकों का देश है तथा बारह महीनों के तीज-त्योहार भी यहां सूर्य के संवत्सर चक्र के अनुसार मनाए जाते हैं। हमें अपने देश के उन आंचलिक पर्व और त्योहारों का विशेष रूप से आभारी होना चाहिए जिनके कारण भारतीय सभ्यता और संस्कृति की ऐतिहासिक पहचान आज भी सुरक्षित है।
दरअसल, छठ पर्व ‘भारतराष्ट्र’ की अस्मिता और सांस्कृतिक पहचान से जुड़ा पर्व है। छठ के अवसर पर अस्त होते और उगते सूर्य को अर्घ्य देने का यही निहितार्थ है कि समस्त प्रजाजनों का भरण-पोषण करने वाला असली राजा तो सूर्य है। वैदिक साहित्य में प्रजावर्ग का भरण-पोषण करने के कारण सूर्य को ‘भरत’ कहा गया है। यजुर्वेद के अनुसार सूर्य एक राष्ट्र भी है राष्ट्रपति भी। सूर्य की ‘भरत’ संज्ञा होने के कारण सूर्यवंशी आर्य भरतगण कहलाने लगे। बाद में इन्हीं सूर्य-उपासक भरतवंशियों से शासित यह देश भी ‘भारतवर्ष’ या ‘भारतराष्ट्र’ कहलाया। भारतवासियों के लिए समस्त कामनाओं की पूर्ति तो भगवान सूर्य से हो जाती है किन्तु पुत्रेषणा की पूर्ति मातृस्वरूपा प्रकृति देवी से ही होती है। इसलिए पर ब्रहम स्वरूप सूर्य और उनकी शक्ति स्वरूपा षष्ठी देवी की पूजा-अर्चना की परंपरा हजारों वर्षो से प्रचलित है।
‘पर्व’ का अर्थ है गांठ या जोड़। भारत का प्रत्येक पर्व ऐसी सांस्कृतिक धरोहर है जिसके साथ प्राचीन कालखंडों का इतिहास और पूजा परंपराओं की वैज्ञानिक कड़ियां भी जुड़ी हुई हैं। ज्योतिर्विज्ञान और लोकपरम्परा का अद्भुत सम्मिलन है छठ पर्व। पूरे वर्ष में सबसे अँधेरी रात कार्तिक महीने की अमावस्या को दीवाली और कार्तिक की पूर्णिमा के बीच छठवें – सातवें दिन होने वाली सूर्य की पूजा गाँव के किसानों में पुरातन काल से ही प्रचलित है। घोर अंधकार और धवल प्रकाश के बीच छह कृतिकाओं के मास कार्तिक का यह पर्व वैदिक काल से ही उपास्य रहा है।
ऐतिहासिक दृष्टि से सूर्य-उपासना से जुड़ा छठ पर्व भारत के आदि कालीन सूर्यवंशी भरत राजाओं का मुख्य पर्व था। छठ पर्व मगध (बिहार) का सर्वाधिक लोकप्रिय पर्व कैसे बन गया ? इस संबंध में एक पौराणिक मान्यता प्रचलित है कि मगध सम्राट जरासंध के किसी पूर्वज के कुष्ठ रोग को दूर करने के लिए शाकलद्वीपीय मगध ब्राहमणों ने सूर्य-उपासना की थी। तभी से मगध क्षेत्र बिहार में छठ के अवसर पर सूर्य-उपासना का प्रचलन प्रारंभ हुआ। छठ पर्व के साथ आनर्त प्रदेश वर्तमान गुजरात के सूर्यवंशी राजा शर्याति और भार्गव ऋषि च्यवन का भी ऐतिहासिक कथानक जुड़ा है। पौराणिक अनुश्रुति के अनुसार एक बार राजा शर्याति जंगल में शिकार खेल रहे थे तो उनकी पुत्री सुकन्या ने गलतफहमी में दीमक की बांबी में डूबे तपस्यारत च्यवन ऋषि की चमकती हुई दोनों आंखों को फोड़ डाला था। च्यवन ऋषि के शाप से शर्याति के सैनिकों पर घोर उपसर्ग होने लगा। तब प्रायश्चित के रूप में सुकन्या ने कार्तिक मास की षष्ठी तिथि को सूर्य देव की उपासना की तो च्यवन ऋषि के आंखों की ज्योति वापस आ गई।
उधर ‘ब्रहमवैवर्त पुराण’ के अनुसार स्वायम्भुव मनु के पुत्र राजा प्रियवत की जब कोई संतान नहीं हुई तो उन्होंने महर्षि कश्यप के कहने पर पुत्रेष्टि यज्ञ किया जिसके फलस्वरूप उनकी महारानी ने पुत्र को जन्म तो दिया किन्तु वह शिशु मृत पैदा हुआ। बाद में षष्ठी देवी की कृपा से शिशु जीवित हो गया। तभी से प्रकृति का छठा अंश मानी जाने वाली षष्ठी देवी बालकों की रक्षिका और संतान देने वाली देवी के रूप में पूजी जाने लगी-
“षष्ठांशा प्रकृतेर्या च सा च षष्ठी प्रकीर्तिता”
मार्कण्डेय पुराण में भी इस बात का उल्लेख मिलता है कि सृष्टि की अधिष्ठात्री प्रकृति देवी ने अपने आप को छह भागों में विभाजित किया और इनके छठे अंश को सर्वश्रेष्ठ मातृ देवी के रूप में जाना जाता है, जो ब्रह्मा की मानस पुत्री और बच्चों की रक्षा करने वाली देवी हैं। कार्तिक मास के शुक्ल पक्ष की षष्ठी को इन्हीं देवी की पूजा की जाती है। शिशु के जन्म के छह दिनों के बाद भी इन्हीं देवी की पूजा करके बच्चे के स्वस्थ, सफल और दीर्घ आयु की प्रार्थना की जाती है। नव दुर्गाओं के सन्दर्भ में पुराणों में इन्हीं देवी का नाम ‘कात्यायनी’ है, जिनकी नवरात्र की षष्ठी तिथि को ही पूजा की जाती है।
इस पर्व के बारे में एक मान्यता यह भी प्रचलित है कि श्री रामचन्द्र जी जब अयोध्या लौटकर आये तब राजतिलक के पश्चात उन्होंने सूर्यवंश की प्राचीन परम्पराओं का पालन करते हुए माता सीता के साथ कार्तिक शुक्ल षष्ठी तिथि को सूर्य देवता की व्रतोपासना की और उस दिन से जनसामान्य में यह पर्व लोकमान्य हो गया और पूर्ण आस्था एवं भक्ति के साथ यह त्यौहार सामूहिक रूप से मनाया जाने लगा।
आज छठ पर्व बिहार और उत्तर प्रदेश से जुड़ा आंचलिक पर्व तक सीमित नहीं है बल्कि यह पर्व दिल्ली,मुंबई, कोलकाता, चेन्नई जैसे महानगरों में भी बड़े उत्साह और श्रद्धाभाव से मनाया जाने वाला एक राष्ट्रीय पर्व का रूप धारण कर चुका है। छठ पर्व के दिन देश के कोने-कोने में स्थित तालाबों, सरोवरों और नदियों के घाटों में जिस तरह से सूर्य की पूजा के लिए जन सैलाब उमड़कर आता है उससे लगता है मानो समग्र भारत राष्ट्र पंक्तिबद्ध रूप से एकाकार होकर देश की सुख, समृद्धि और खुशहाली के लिए विश्व अर्थव्यवस्था के नियामक सूर्य देव को और प्रकृति की अधिष्ठात्री षष्ठी देवी को अपनी आस्था, भक्ति और कृतज्ञता ज्ञापन का अर्घ्य चढ़ा रहा हो।
भारतराष्ट्र की अस्मिता, खुशहाली और सांस्कृतिक पहचान से सरोकार रखने वाले लोगों को बिहारवासियों का विशेष आभारी होना चाहिए कि उन्होंने सूर्य पूजा के माध्यम से छठपर्व की पृष्ठभूमि में वैदिक आर्यों के धरोहर स्वरूप सूर्यसंस्कृति की लोकपरंपरा को आज भी जीवित रखा है। भारत के लगभग अस्सी प्रतिशत गांव आज भी कृषि एवं पेयजल के लिए भूमिगत जल पर ही निर्भर हैं परंतु जलापूर्ति के स्रोत दिन-प्रतिदिन घटते जा रहे हैं। ऐसे संकटकालीन परिस्थितियों में भारत के सूर्य उपासकों का देशवासियों को यही संदेश है कि छठ पर्व को महज एक धार्मिक अनुष्ठान के रूप में ही नहीं बल्कि इसे जलसंस्थानों के संरक्षण और संवर्धन के राष्ट्रीय अभियान के रूप में भी मनाया जाना चाहिए ताकि जलवायु परिवर्तन के कारण उत्पन्न प्राकृतिक प्रकोप शांत हों, नियत समय पर मानसूनों की वर्षा हो और यह देश कृषिसम्पदा से खुशहाल हो सके। समस्त देशवासियों को छठपर्व की हार्दिक शुभकामनाएं।
